What to put on thermal printer labels
- Black only: direct-thermal printers print one colour
- Large, bold text (thermal print is 203 or 300 dpi)
- Barcode or QR code with white space around it
- No large solid black areas, which waste the print head and can smear
Tips
- Install your printer’s driver first so its label sizes appear in the print dialog, then pick the size that matches this template.
- Set scale to 100% and margins to none. If the print dialog adds a blank label after each print, turn off headers and footers.
- Direct-thermal labels fade with heat and sunlight. For labels that must last for years, use thermal-transfer labels with a ribbon printer.

Questions
Can I print to a DYMO LabelWriter without DYMO Connect?
Yes. With the DYMO driver installed, choose the DYMO printer in your browser’s print dialog and select the matching label size (for example 30252 Address). LabelStudio sizes each page to one label.
Does this work with Zebra and Rollo printers?
Yes, through the operating-system driver. Choose the 4 × 6", 3 × 2" or 2 × 1" template, then pick the same paper size in the print dialog. LabelStudio prints graphics rather than sending ZPL commands.
What size are thermal shipping labels?
4" × 6" is the standard carrier shipping label size used by USPS, UPS and FedEx thermal printing. DYMO LabelWriter 4XL and 5XL printers also take 4 × 6" labels.
Can I use colour on thermal labels?
Direct-thermal printers print black only (some special labels print red). Design in black and white for the sharpest result.
