Tips
- In the US, a true soap (mostly fats and lye, sold only as soap) is regulated by the CPSC, but once you claim moisturising or deodorising it is a cosmetic and FDA labelling rules apply.
- Weigh bars after curing, not straight out of the mould, since they lose water weight.
- Kraft or cream label stock suits the handmade look; print dark ink for contrast.

Questions
What size label for a soap bar?
A 4" × 2" label (Avery 5163) wraps the width of a typical 4 oz bar as a belly band, or use a 2" round sticker on a box.
Do I need to list ingredients on soap?
It depends on your claims and country. Cosmetic soaps in the US and all cosmetics in the EU and UK need an ingredient list. Check the FDA’s guidance on soap if you are unsure.
Can I print on kraft labels?
Yes. Kraft label sheets use the same layouts. Choose the “Kraft” style and use dark text, because white ink does not print on home printers.
