What to put on barcode labels
- The barcode, with digits shown underneath
- A short product or SKU name
- Enough white space either side of the bars (the quiet zone)
Tips
- EAN-13 and UPC-A numbers for retail must be licensed from GS1; making up numbers will clash with real products.
- For internal stock and asset tags, Code 128 encodes any letters and numbers.
- Print at 100% scale; scaled barcodes may fail to scan.

Questions
Which barcode type should I use?
Retail products: EAN-13 (worldwide) or UPC-A (US/Canada) with a GS1 number. Internal stock, bins and assets: Code 128.
Can I print sequential barcodes?
Use list mode: paste one code per line and set the barcode value to {all}. A spreadsheet can generate the sequence for you.
Why does it say invalid value?
EAN-13 needs 12 or 13 digits and UPC-A 11 or 12; if you type the final check digit it must be correct.
